Kouloura Corfu ( Korfu ) Greece

Kouloura is actually a small typical fishing village, ideal for those who wish to spend their holidays in a tranquil atmosphere.

The view from the harbour is irresistible!

The shingle beach, surrounded by trees makes the scenery idyllic.

Don't hesitate to sample traditional Greek dishes and fresh fish at the harbour tavern!

corfu_greece_koulouraDriving down the winding road towards Kouloura is an exercise in will power: the spectacular enclosed bay dotted with yachts and cypresses will certainly try to drag your attention away from the steering wheel.

The view from above is magical, but seen from close at hand it is not very different from the neighbouring shorelines.

Its trademark, the magnificent Agnelli villa, where countless celebrities and members of royalty have stayed at times, is at the end of the bay. On the one side, are the fishing boats and yachts and on the other the families from the villas round about spreading out their beach towels on the sand (the beach is not organised). There is one taverns on the beach.

There are no sun beds and umbrellas for hire (although the trees lining the beach are good for shade), or pedaloes or manic water sports disturbing the calm of the bay.

The water is as clear and clean as anything, and, as the bay has a rocky bottom, it is brilliant for snorkelling and scuba diving. One warning though - it's a good idea to wear sandals or other shoes into the water, as we did spot some of those spiky sea anemones lurking around the place, and, apparently, they can give a nasty sting.
